RK PCC Automatic Core Cutting Machine – Pneumatic Paper Core Cutter

The RK PCC is a paper core cutter that uses pneumatic cylinders for the three movements that a manual cutter leaves to the operator: pushing the blades into the core, supporting the core from below while it is cut and releasing the cut pieces afterwards. The core is held on a shaft of 500 mm length with a working length of 450 mm, and the cutting is performed by rotary blades whose positions are fixed by spacers.

Eight cutting blades and about 110 spacers come with the machine, so the operator can set up several widths across the shaft in one go. A digital timer sets how long the blades stay in the core, and the machine runs on a 2 HP three-phase supply. The frame is compact at roughly 4.5 ft long, 2.5 ft wide and 4 ft high.

Suitable for 1 inch, 1.5 inch and 3 inch Cores

The three core sizes used across label, tape and paper converting are all covered. The bottom support is adjusted as per the core size so that each diameter is held properly during the cut.

Rotary Blade Cutting With Spacer Set Positions

Cutting is done by rotary blades whose positions along the shaft are fixed with spacers. The spacers set the gaps between the blades, so width adjustment is semi-automatic. Once the spacers are set for a job, every core loaded gives the same widths.

Pneumatic Cutting Depth Control

One pneumatic cylinder controls the movement of the blade shaft, and therefore the cutting depth. The blade goes to the same depth every time, without the operator leaning on a lever.

Bottom Support During Cutting

A second pneumatic cylinder brings a bottom support under the core while it is cut, so the core does not flex under the blades. This is what keeps the cut edges clean and square.

Auto Unloading of Cut Cores

The third pneumatic cylinder releases the cut cores from the shaft when the cut is complete. The operator collects the pieces and loads the next core.

Digital Timer Control

The cutting duration is set on a digital timer. The machine cuts for the set time and stops, which removes guesswork and makes the result independent of who is operating it.

Blades and Spacers Supplied With the Machine

Eight cutting blades and about 110 spacers are provided, which is enough to set up a range of common roll widths without buying extra tooling first.

The operator first sets up the shaft for the job: rotary blades are placed along the blade shaft with spacers between them so that the gaps match the roll widths required, and the bottom support is adjusted for the core diameter in use, 1, 1.5 or 3 inch. The cutting time is entered on the digital timer. A full length core, up to 450 mm of working length, is then slid on to the core holding shaft.

On starting the cycle, the bottom support cylinder rises to hold the core, the blade shaft cylinder brings the rotating blades into the core to the set depth and the blades cut for the timed duration. When the timer runs out, the blades withdraw and the third cylinder releases the cut cores from the shaft. The operator removes the pieces, loads the next core and repeats. Because the widths are fixed by the spacers, there is nothing to measure between cores.

The RK PCC is designed for paper cores in 1 inch, 1.5 inch and 3 inch sizes, which are the standard cores used for label stock, thermal paper, tapes and film rolls.
