Core Cutting Machine

Core Cutting Machine Manufacturer in India

Every roll that leaves a slitting or rewinding machine is wound on a paper core, and that core has to be exactly the width of the roll. Cores are bought in long lengths and cut down in the plant. Cut them by hand and the edges are rough, the widths vary and the operator's time is lost. A paper core cutting machine cuts cores to width quickly, with clean square edges, so the rewinder never waits for cores.

RK Label Printing Machinery Pvt. Ltd. manufactures core cutting machines in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The range on this page has three models, all for 1 inch, 1.5 inch and 3 inch paper cores: the RK PCC pneumatic Automatic Core Cutting Machine with digital timer control and auto unloading, the Servo Core Cutting Machine with fully servo controlled digital auto cutting, and the RK MCC Manual Core Cutting Machine with a rotary blade.

This page explains what a core cutting machine does, how the three RK models differ, and how to pick the right one for your plant.

01 — What Is It

What Is a Core Cutting Machine?

A core cutting machine cuts paper cores, the cardboard tubes that rolls are wound on, to the length needed. A long core is slid onto a core holding shaft. A rotary blade, or a set of blades spaced at the required widths, is brought onto the core and cuts it as the shaft turns. The cut pieces are removed and the next core is loaded.

Label printers and converters use cores of 1 inch, 1.5 inch and 3 inch inside diameter. A slitting machine rewinding six lanes needs six cores cut to the lane widths for every finished set. A core cutting machine produces them in a few seconds each.

RK builds three versions. The manual machine positions and cuts with the operator's hand. The pneumatic automatic machine controls the cutting depth, supports the core and unloads it automatically on a digital timer. The servo machine adds full servo control of the cutting cycle.

02 — Range

The RK Core Cutting Machine Range

01

Automatic Core Cutting Machine (RK PCC)

The RK PCC is a pneumatic paper core cutting machine for 1 inch, 1.5 inch and 3 inch cores. The core holding shaft is 500 mm long with a 450 mm working length. Cutting is by rotary blades whose positions are fixed by spacers, and eight cutting blades and about 110 spacers are supplied with the machine, so several widths can be cut in one cycle. Three pneumatic cylinders control the cutting depth, support the core from below during cutting and release the cut cores from the shaft automatically. A digital timer controls the cutting duration. Power consumption is 2 HP three phase and the machine measures 4.5 ft by 2.5 ft by 4 ft. It suits plants cutting many cores a day who want the operator to load, press start and collect.

Servo Core Cutting Machine

The Servo Core Cutting Machine is a fully servo controlled digital auto core cutting machine for 1 inch, 1.5 inch and 3 inch cores, with a 500 mm core shaft and 450 mm working length. Core cutting is pneumatic in operation with a cutting attachment made to the required size. The cut widths are set on the operator HMI and adjusted fully automatically. A 1 HP single phase motor is controlled with a digital timer for automatic cutting. It measures 4.7 ft by 2.5 ft by 4 ft. It suits plants that want automatic cutting on a single phase supply.

Manual Core Cutting Machine (RK MCC)

The RK MCC is a manual core cutting machine with a rotary blade, for variable size core cutting with 1 inch, 1.5 inch and 3 inch attachments. A 1 HP three phase main motor turns the core and the operator brings the blade onto it by hand. Power consumption is 1 HP three phase and the machine measures 3 ft by 1.5 ft by 3.5 ft. It suits small shops and in-house label rooms that cut a modest number of cores and want the simplest machine.

03 — Key Features

Key Features of RK Core Cutting Machines

Three Core Sizes on Every Model

All three machines cut 1 inch, 1.5 inch and 3 inch paper cores, the sizes used across label and converting work.

Rotary Blade Cutting

The RK PCC and RK MCC cut with a rotary blade, giving a clean square edge on the core.

Multiple Widths in One Cycle

On the RK PCC the blade positions are fixed by spacers (semi-automatic adjustment), and eight blades with about 110 spacers are supplied, so a core can be cut into several widths in one operation.

Pneumatic Depth Control and Auto Unloading

The RK PCC uses three pneumatic cylinders: one controls the cutting depth, one supports the core from below during cutting, and one releases the cut cores from the shaft.

Digital Timer Control

The RK PCC and the Servo model control the cutting duration with a digital timer, so every cut takes the same time.

500 mm Core Shaft

The RK PCC and the Servo model have a 500 mm core holding shaft with a 450 mm working length.

Compact Footprint

The largest model is 4.7 ft long and the manual machine is 3 ft long, so any of them fits beside a slitter.

04 — How It Works

How Does a Core Cutting Machine Work?

1

The operator slides a paper core, 1 inch, 1.5 inch or 3 inch inside diameter, onto the core holding shaft. On the RK PCC the shaft is 500 mm long with a 450 mm working length. The blade positions are set beforehand by fixing the rotary blades along the shaft with spacers at the widths needed.

2

On the RK PCC the operator starts the cycle. The pneumatic cylinders bring the blades down to the set cutting depth and support the core from below while the shaft turns and the blades cut through it. The digital timer runs the cut for the set duration. When it ends, the third pneumatic cylinder releases the cut cores from the shaft so the operator only collects them and loads the next core.

3

On the Servo model the cutting cycle runs under servo control with the same pneumatic cutting action and digital timer. On the RK MCC the motor turns the core and the operator brings the rotary blade onto it by hand at each cut position.

05 — Applications

Applications

Label slitting and rewinding - cores cut to each lane width for the rewinder.
Flexo and tower press rewinding - 3 inch cores cut to the web width for finished rolls.
Jumbo and stock lot slitting - cores for the narrower reels produced from wide parent rolls.
POS and thermal paper roll slitting - cores cut for billing roll sizes.
Tape and film converting - paper cores cut to the widths of slit products.
Core suppliers - cutting long cores to customer widths for resale.
In-house label rooms - a manual machine for occasional core cutting.

06 — Materials

What Materials Can It Run?

The RK machines cut paper cores of 1 inch, 1.5 inch and 3 inch inside diameter. The RK PCC and Servo model have a 450 mm working length on the shaft, and the RK MCC cuts variable size cores with the three attachments. For thicker-walled cores or other diameters, share a sample with RK. The company runs a trial on the customer's own material before almost every order and confirms the blade and attachment for it.

07 — Selection Guide

How to Choose the Right Core Cutting Machine

01How many cores do you cut a day?A few a day suits the manual RK MCC. Continuous cutting suits the automatic RK PCC or the Servo model.
02Do you cut several widths at once? The RK PCC's spacer-fixed blades cut multiple widths in one cycle, with eight blades and about 110 spacers supplied.
03Do you want automatic unloading? The RK PCC releases the cut cores from the shaft with a pneumatic cylinder.
04What power supply do you have? The Servo model runs on 1 HP single phase. The RK PCC needs 2 HP three phase and the RK MCC 1 HP three phase. The RK PCC and Servo model also need compressed air; the RK MCC does not.
05How much space is there? All three fit within 5 ft of length and 2.5 ft of width.
06Which core sizes do you use?All three cut 1 inch, 1.5 inch and 3 inch cores.
