Rotary Die Cutting

Rotary Die Cutting Machine Manufacturer in India

When a label job runs into lakhs of pieces, cutting one stroke at a time is too slow. A rotary die cutting machine cuts continuously. The web runs between a cylindrical die and an anvil roller, the label shape is cut on every turn, and the waste matrix is stripped away without the web ever stopping. That is why rotary die cutting is the standard for long runs of self-adhesive labels and stickers.

RK Label Printing Machinery Pvt. Ltd. manufactures rotary die cutting machines at its head office in GIDC Vatva, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The range on this page has four models: the RK PTR-320 High-Speed Rotary Die Cutting Machine with Auto Turret Rewinder, the RK PS-320 Die Cutting With Up & Down Rewinding, the RK VANDANA-24 Die Cutting With Sheet Cutting, and the RK-TR-MPS-250 Micro Die Cutting With Turret Rewinding.

The three 320 mm machines run a rotary die cutting unit, online slitting and waste matrix rewinding, and differ in how the finished labels are rewound or sheeted. The micro model does the same job on a 250 mm width for smaller shops. This page explains each machine and how to choose.

01 — What Is It

What Is a Rotary Die Cutting Machine?

A rotary die cutting machine cuts shapes from a continuously moving web. The die is a cylinder, either a solid engraved die or a flexible die wrapped around a magnetic cylinder, and it turns against a hard anvil roller. Each rotation cuts one repeat of labels through the face material while leaving the release liner intact.

Because the web never stops, a rotary die machine runs much faster than a flatbed die cutter. RK's PTR-320 and PS-320 are published at 120 m/min. The trade off is that a rotary die is made for one repeat length, so rotary cutting suits long runs and repeat jobs, while flatbed cutting suits short runs with frequent shape changes.

Most rotary die cutting and slitting machines also slit the web into narrow lanes after cutting, collect the edge trim and rewind the finished rolls. RK's machines include an online slitting unit, an air blower for waste trimming and an online waste matrix rewinding unit, with a turret, up and down or sheet delivery at the end.

03 — Key Features

Key Features of RK Rotary Die Cutting Machines

Continuous Cutting at 120 m/min

The RK PTR-320 and RK PS-320 are published at 120 m/min, with a single rotary die cutting unit.

Online Slitting and Waste Matrix Rewinding

Every model in the range slits the web online, collects trim with an air blower and rewinds the waste matrix online, so finished label rolls come off clean.

Auto Turret Rewinding

On the RK PTR-320 the turret indexes automatically by stepper motor, and the 1 inch, 1.5 inch and 3 inch air shafts synchronise their speed, so rolls change without stopping the machine.

Ultrasonic Web Guide

The RK PTR-320, RK PS-320 and RK VANDANA-24 use an ultrasonic electronic web guide to keep the web centred through die cutting and slitting.

Roll to Sheet Delivery

The RK VANDANA-24 half cuts labels on the first rotary unit and sheets them on a second rotary sheet cutting unit with a conveyor belt.

Label and Meter Counting With Auto Stop

PLC based label and meter counting stops the machine at the target on the 320 mm models, and the micro model has the same count and auto stop.

Individual Motors With VFD

Separate unwinding and rewinding motors, each on a variable frequency drive, keep tension steady and let the operator set speed from the touch HMI.

04 — How It Works

How Does a Rotary Die Cutting Machine Work?

1

The label reel is loaded on the unwinding unit, up to 600 mm on the RK PTR-320, RK PS-320 and RK-TR-MPS-250 and up to 800 mm on the RK VANDANA-24. The ultrasonic web guide, or the gauge unit on the micro model, keeps the web running straight as the unwinding motor feeds it forward.

2

The web passes through the rotary die cutting unit. The die cylinder turns against the anvil in the rotary die cutting unit and cuts the label shape on every rotation through the face material, leaving the liner whole. Immediately after the die, the waste matrix is peeled off and wound on the online waste matrix rewinding unit.

3

The web then reaches the online slitting unit, where rotary blades divide it into lanes, and the air blower removes the edge trim. On the RK PTR-320 the lanes wind onto the turret rewinder, which indexes to fresh shafts when the label or meter count is reached. On the RK PS-320 and the micro model they wind onto the up and down or manual turret rewinder. On the RK VANDANA-24 the half cut web instead passes to the rotary sheet cutting unit and the conveyor belt carries the sheets out. The PLC counter stops the machine at the set label or meter figure.

05 — Applications
